Over One Billion Euro for Polish Organisations from the Horizon Europe Framework Programme!
According to the latest data, more than EUR 1 billion in funding has already been awarded to 809 Polish organisations for the implementation of 1,880 projects financed under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. This amount significantly exceeds the funding secured by Polish entities under the entire Horizon 2020 programme (EUR 747 million). Although the budget of the current Horizon Europe programme is approximately 14% higher compared to Horizon 2020 — partially contributing to the increase in funding obtained by Polish organisations — the growth in funding is substantially higher than could be explained by the budget increase alone. A notable improvement is also visible in terms of the share of funding obtained in relation to the total budget allocated to all EU countries, increasing from 1.19% in Horizon 2020 to 1.85% at present.

Horizon 2020:

A particularly impressive advancement at the national level can be observed in securing research grants from the European Research Council (ERC), which supports creative and pioneering research ideas across all fields of knowledge. The net value of ERC funding awarded to Polish beneficiaries has more than doubled compared to Horizon 2020. In addition, the number of funded projects, unique participants and coordinated initiatives has increased significantly.

Horizon 2020:
Currently, the most active sector among participants in Horizon Europe is higher education, which has secured EUR 375.2 million for the implementation of 855 projects, accounting for more than 35% of all funding awarded to Polish participants. In the previous Framework Programme, research organisations were the leading beneficiary group, with a share of nearly 30%.
The undisputed national leader, both in terms of the number of projects and coordinations, is the University of Warsaw, which has so far secured EUR 65.7 million in net funding for the implementation of 135 projects, acting as the coordinator in 37 of them. In second place is the Jagiellonian University, with 86 projects valued at EUR 45.5 million. Third place is held by the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, which is carrying out 73 projects worth EUR 25.9 million. Among the top three organisations in terms of the total value of grants are also FundingBox Accelerator Sp. z o.o. (ranked first) and the National Centre for Research and Development (ranked third). It should be noted, however, that both organisations act as intermediary funding bodies, distributing a substantial part of resources further through cascade funding schemes dedicated to third party beneficiaries.
