Polish Technology Platforms
First Technology Platforms have been launched in Poland in 2004. In the following year the process of creating European Technology Platforms has begun. European Technology Platforms are an important joint undertaking of the European Commission, industry, scientific and financial institutions as well as decision-making groups and society. Platforms have been created in order to establish development strategies for essential European economy sectors and future technologies. One of the major aims is to settle an effective public and private partnership for the implementation of already prepared strategies. Technology Platforms are one of the milestones of the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Development of the European Union. Currently 34 technology platforms operate in Europe and 28 in Poland.
The objectives of Polish Technology Platforms have been set within two dimensions:
The representatives of PTPs are members of European Platforms' bodies (e.g. Mirror Group, Advisory Group, Steering Committee, Steering Board) and prepare Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) and Work Programmes for the particular Themes of FP7. Thus, the presence of the representatives of PTPs in European Platforms provides the possibility of submitting research topics for FP7 Work Programmes. The active representatives of PTPs are successfully incorporating their entities into project consortia of the Framework Programmes. Appointed in 2005 Coordination Committee of PTPs (CC PTPs) coordinates their activities and represents Platforms in contacting economy authorities and organisations as well as supports their cooperation with European Technology Platforms. Coordination Committee is composed of: Mr Marek Darecki - President Prof. Andrzej Babuchowski Prof. Zbigniew Śmieszek Prof. Bogusław Smólski Prof. Elżbieta Syrda Mr Waldemar Sielski. The Secretariat of CC PTPs is led by the National Contact Point for Research Programmes of the European Union. Dr Andrzej Siemaszko acts as the Secretary General of the Coordination Committee of Polish Technology Platforms and is supported by Piotr Świerczyński (piotr.swierczynski@kpk.gov.pl). The National Contact Point provides consultancy and advisory activities for the Platforms. Trainings and conferences for the members of Platforms are organised within the scope of the programmes of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, structural funds and FP7. Finally, NCP supports the participation of PTPs in European Technology Platforms (lobbing in EC).
