Materials presented here contain concise information about 160 Polish research institutes that have responded to the 2001 "NAS-2 Calls for Proposals" in four Thematic Programmes of the 5th Framework Programme, and their proposals were positively evaluated by the European Commission experts. These institutes are recognised by the Polish Ministry of Science as CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE and CENTRES OF COMPETENCE. They present a good example of the Polish research landscape, representing:

• Universities and other higher education institutions
• Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences
• Branch R & D institutions.
