Integrated Project (IP)

Integrated Projects (IP) are one of the new instruments of FP6. An Integrated Project is a transnational multi-partner project with the main aim to generate knowledge in the priority thematic areas of FP6. Integrated projects have to include research and technological development activities and can in addition have demonstration, training and innovation-related activities.

    Integrated Projects: Main New Features

    Autonomy: Implementation plan with detailed plan for the coming 18 months
    Flexibility: option for adding new partners through competitive calls
    Responsibility/liability: joint and several responsibility for technical implementation as well as for financial liability
    Duration: 3 to 5 years
    Evaluation: remote assessment prior to panel meeting?; hearing of applicants; use of specific criteria
    Financial regime: "grant to the budget"
    - contribution to actual costs needed with autonomy to distribute grant between partners.
    - Management costs funded 100% - Costs certified by indep. auditor
    IPR regime: simplified and more flexible (same for all instruments)



    Network of Excellence (NoE)

    Network of Excellences are an instrument to overcome the fragmentation of the European research landscape with the objective to strengthen European excellence in a given area. Their purpose is to reach a durable restructuring/shaping and integration of efforts and institutions or part of institutions (laboratories, departments, units, teams...) in areas where this is necessary.

    Networks of Excellence: Main New Features

    Autonomy: Joint Programme of Activities with detailed plan for the coming 18 months
    Flexibility: options for adding new partners
    Responsibility/liability: joint and several responsibility for technical implementation as well as for financial liability
    Duration: 5 years or more
    Evaluation: remote assessment prior to panel meetings; hearing of applicants; use of specific criteria
    Financial regime: "fixed grant for integration" based on (number of researchers) x (per capita grant) x (years) with autonomy to distribute the grant between partners.
    At least one financial audit within the auditable period.
    IPR regime: simplified and more flexible (same for all instruments)
