The European Commission dynamically enters the transformation of energy sector, limitation of greenhouse gas emission and reduction of environmental effects, especially in the context of announcing a new climate - energy policy on the 23rd of January 2008. The range of issues connected with limiting climate changes has become a predominant in the European Parliament as a wide debate has been commenced together with appointing Professor Jerzy Buzek the Rapporteur for the European Strategic Energy Plan (SET Plan). A new policy of the EU has immense consequences for Polish economy and in particular power sector which is mostly (93%) based on coal.

A great significance and immediacy of the above mentioned issues contributed to a common decision of Professor Jerzy Buzek to organize the "Clean Coal Technology Conference: geological aspects of underground carbon storage and processing" together with Dr Andrzej Siemaszko from the National Contact Point for Research Programmes of the EU.

The key objective of "CLEAN COAL TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE: Geological aspects of underground carbon storage and processing" is the discussion performed among the most prominent specialists, experts, entrepreneurs and politicians concerning all aspects of energy climate policy, in particular the safety of underground CO2 storage and carbon processing. Further important aspects of the Conference refer to the analysis of new policy's consequences for Poland as well as to the attempt of presenting a complex plan of actions in the fields of energy industry transformation, appointing and constructing safe CO2 storages, ambitious R&D program for clean coal technologies and finally creating the program for Enhanced Gas Recovery from Polish deposits.

The conference is organized with the honorary patronage of Minister for Environment Maciej Nowicki and Minister for Economy. EU Commissioner for Energy, Andris Piebalgs and Minister for Environment Maciej Nowicki as well as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Economy Waldemar Pawlak and Minister for Science and Higher Education Barbara Kudrycka will be special guests of the Conference.

Representatives from the European Commission, European Parliament, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, national and regional authorities as well as academia will present their views on relevant important issues.
